Breckenridge

Chilling at the end of Claimjumper.

B booked a really nice place from Air BnB for our stay in Blue River, just outside of Breckenridge. We survived the expected traffic on I70.

We took our time in Frisco, we purchased dog food that we had neglected to obtain prior to the trip at A&A Pet Supply, including a leash (we did forget that) and of course a bone for Muki.

We enjoyed a delicious breakfast at the Butterhorn Cafe, obtaining coffee (forgot that too). We ventured to Walton Byron Park, Muki got to meet several puppers. It’s a popular spot for dogs to bounce and play at the playground. I checked out a couple shops, Back Country Herbal and Next Page Bookshop.

Walk to Walton Byron Park

Breckenridge is not far from Frisco. We took Main Street through town, since we had a late check in, we walked the shops. Muki was welcomed in most shops, she sits so pretty if she thinks a treat is behind the counter. I bought postcards and dutifully filled them later that night.

We found the hot tub in a murky state, B promptly let the property person know. We played Meme games, it was pretty sad with only two of us, Muki was sulky, unwilling to play. Being close to the highway and against a hill there wasn’t much to explore for her. The snow was deep, 3/4 feet, Muki was having a hard time.

The next day we stayed on the greens at the base of Peak 9. B brought the snowboard, which hasn’t been out since 2018/19 season. I felt good at the end of the day, having been on greens. Wednesday, B had his skis and chose Claimjumper, a blue run for our first of the day. It wasn’t for me, it was too steep and I shouldn’t have been on it. After I finally got down that, I took a long break and B took advantage of the day. He had a great time skiing his skill level of blues at Peak 7 and 8.

Back to skiing

I stayed on Peak 8, by the end of the day I was comfortable with a more challenging green, Swinger into Crescendo run. All in all, great days of skiing! Frankoma enjoyed the gondola. The hot tub got drained and blasted with chemicals on Tuesday afternoon, so by late evening we were able to get in.

Frankoma enjoying the views.

Muki didn’t appreciate the dog park in Breckenridge, as a sledding hill is located next to the park. She gets nervous with small screaming children, assuming a whistle will sound in their vicinity. We took her back to town, being that’s what she really wanted – more opportunities for treats ๐Ÿ™‚

Our of goal of skiing completed – we didn’t really want to stay the extra night we had. Bad weather was due to come in right as we would have left on Friday. So we packed up Thursday and stopped once more in Frisco and walked along the Rainbow Lake trail for a bit. Muki was much less sulky after romping in the snow.

Muki loving the snow on Rainbow Lake Trail.

A few notes: parking is a challenge in Breckenridge and not free. Pricing for food – is similar everywhere in town. A physical map of the ski resort is only available at the gondola/resort. The gondola is free to ride, there’s 3 stops a neighborhood, Peak 7 and Peak 8. Blue River is close, definitely would stay there again. We only need 2 days of skiing, at most 3 nights next time we plan.
