We drove down for a 1 night camping adventure. I reckon we must have gotten stir crazy from not camping so much in 2020. Canon City is driveable within an evening. The temps were a bit warmer than our location and the county did not have a fire restriction – hence we drove the distance to have a campfire.
View towards the NW from camp
Muki racing back to camp – from a short walk
Lots of glass at the campsite ๐ฆ We spent about 2 hours picking up glass at this campsite – this was just a small portion of the trash left here.
Mt. Audubon
My first 13’er hike along with our friend in the Indian Peaks Wilderness. Brian had already been up to the top prior. Seems unlikely John James Audubon, whom the peak is named after made the ascent to the top. The parking lot is a popular one – get there early for a parking spot and ensure you know which trailhead is the right trailhead.
Duly noted – this is NOT the trailhead for Audubon
Plenty of scenic views on this trail as well though – just a warm up to the Audubon trail – located just NE I believe of this trail.
Ah – yes – the first of Brian’s photos from the Audubon trail, looking back towards Lake Mitchell area we initially started.
It’s a long slow climb – well, for me it was ๐
NM – Great White Sand Dunes Nat’l Park
We drove my parents to Roswell this past year and it was a long drive. My mother’s purpose being to visit one of her uncle’s still living and his daughter’s family. Our first stop was in Raton – vast vistas along the way. Oddly enough, neither of us took any photos during our stay in the city of Roswell.

We suffered the long, long drive from Roswell to the Great White Sand Dunes Nat’l Park. Located at the Park entrance, multiple signs caution about having enough water to drive into the park. The Park recommends carrying 2 amounts of food & water for 1 person. When 1/2 of a person’s water supply is gone – it’s standard to go back to your vehicle. This is an interesting park – not only for the possible extreme weather conditions, but also for possibly finding debris from the military range. Mom got her park stamp & we all got several postcards from the Visitor’s Center – Muki got some icecream.
Bozeman
The drive to Bozeman was another long haul – but again – vast vistas everywhere. Steep mountains were close to the highway in the valleys. This short trip to Bozeman was to meet up with longtime friends from Seattle, who were traveling on a road trip with their little one. The lodging was in a great location off of Hwy 191 with a couple of horses in the pasture.
Gallatin River- Bozeman, MT
Her choice of stick from the GallatinCool Cabin that was attached to the property we stayed. We enjoyed a small fire & roasted marshmallows with cool evening temps and gorgeous sunsets. Another drone shot of Gallatin River
